  • Earn While Sitting at Home

Online tutoring has opened new vistas not only for students but also for tutors who are willing to work a bit extra and earn good rewards. In fact many of the tutors are actually earning their living by working as an online tutor. If you have an area of expertise and a desire for some extra income, if you are good with concepts and like to work with students from K-12 then you have an opportunity to make some money on the side (or even full-time) from the comfort of your home.

Online tutoring is a fast-growing industry and many companies are foraying in to this business. As a result requirements for the tutors are also increasing quite sharply. The rate at which companies like 24hourstutor.com are growing there seem to huge demand for tutors. In fact they are open for hiring for the whole 12 months. The major benefit of becoming an online tutor is that students can achieve the same results of an in-person tutoring session – except you can both do it from home. No commuting through snowstorms, no appointments missed because of traffic, and environmental expenses of transportation are reduced too (as an added bonus). Before assigning any live class to any tutor, they have to undergo a training that includes technology training, soft skills training, curriculum training etc..

Generally tutors use the following tools during an online tutoring session:

    Instant messaging

    Interactive whiteboard applications

    File sharing

    Chat mechanisms

Although you can work part time or full time as a tutor, most people do it on a part time basis. And although it’s casual work, it can’t be treated casually. You are usually required to be available for your students consistently week to week throughout the school year.

Some of the requirements expected of you include (not all apply, depending on the organization):

University degree or equivalent Professional designation

    Background checks

“Learning is a continuous process” it’s an universal truth that we all know what we don’t know is that Learning has come a long way since the first schools began to the introduction of text- books and classrooms, to now learning and taking courses on the computer. This is also known as E learning.

What a wonderful tool to have E learning provides ample opportunities for people all over the world. And believe it or not, it is possible for a 2nd grade class to take a field trip from Birmingham to London! All through virtual connection by using the computer or E – learning.

But how did all this E learning come to pass? Well as time went on and more and more people were able to connect to the Internet, more research and development went into E –learning.

Researchers began looking at different ways of using technology to help people learn as well as send emails and do other things by using the Internet access. And with the introduction of more software and E learning solutions such as web meeting tools and other vital file information things began to move even faster for the Internet and the idea of E –learning stayed on the minds of those who were in the field of learning and technology.

Soon, many online education portals like 24hourstutor.com started to flood Internet, they were doing it with the help of technology like web meeting software which are extremely easy to use and create a real time environment for those who seek education on Internet. This all is so efficient that it has created a whole wave among the new generation to opt for e-learning rather than more traditional ways like hiring personal tutors or going to coaching centers. Moreover this all is coming at such a price whereby anyone can afford it, in 24hourstutor.com case it is all coming at just £4.99 per hour, which is nothing when compared to the cost involved in travelling between coaching centeres.

Then web casts and animation was created as well as better graphics to eventually the web cams allowing virtual tours and field trips or other world wide things no one thought would be possible, but with E Learning it was true and possible to achieve.

There are some other educational tools like simulations etc that are used in virtual life for the education purpose, though the credibility of these are remains to be seen.

On an average out of every ten homes in the UK today eight out of those ten have computers and access to the Internet so E learning is definitely here to stay.

Now we have real time capabilities and other sources beyond even our own comprehension unless we are the researchers and developers of a lot of the concepts of the computer and the Internet. E learning is a good tool, and one that simply keeps getting better and improved all the time.

Imagine a child in the middle of his homework/test preparation at home and all of a sudden gets stuck or faces troubles understanding a concept. Arranging for a private tutor is time consuming and expensive. Online tutoring is what you need at that point of time.In recent years online tutoring has brought online study to a new dimension. Getting tutored over the internet is quite an intriguing concept for students as well as parents. It is a unique interactive platform that enables students to get the individual attention in their studies. Now students can connect to an online tutor anytime anywhere. The outsourcing of business services like financing, banking, telecommunication etc has seen a huge growth in countries like India, Philippines and Israel. Well moving beyond all this a new type of outsourcing boom is taking over the conventional fields of outsourcing and that is the outsourcing of online tutoring services. Today some of the big names in online tutoring industry in USA are hiring teachers from India. India has an abundance of highly qualified teachers. Though online tutoring is still a new concept in India but many companies are coming up with their own online tutoring portals, one such company that I came across is 24hourstutor.com. It is an online tutoring company that provide 24 hours assistance to the students, they use sophisticated software that makes the teaching so easy and real. They provide personalized one-on-tutoring for increasing the student’s learning capability and it comes in no price as compared to the prices charged in USA by a tutor for personalized tutoring. It's not that the U.S. education system is not good. It's just that it's impossible to give personalized education at an affordable cost unless you use technology.

The boom comes at a hard time for the U.S. education system: only two-thirds of teenagers graduate from high school, a number that slides to 50% for black Americans and Hispanics, according to government statistics.

China and India are producing the world's largest number of science and engineering graduates -- at least five times as many as the United States, where the number has fallen since the early 1980s.

In USA parents are increasingly using the e-tutoring services provided by many companies such as 24hourstutor.com. Parents are doing whatever they can to give children an edge that can lead to better marks, and a better future, even if it comes with an Indian accent about 14,500 kilometres away.

Companies like 24hourstutor.com are changing the face of personalized tutoring, which offers one-on-one tutoring in subjects ranging from Algebra to Physics for children in grades K-12.

In layman terms if there is anything that can be done over the Internet can be done in India and tutoring is one such business. I recently came across a company in India that is 24hourstutor.com. This is a really interesting it offers families in North America and Europe a pretty compelling financial deal: unlimited tutoring in mathematics, English and science for $9.99 per hour.

The tutors conduct online sessions with their students that include the ability to speak to one another via VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) and to share an electronic whiteboard that gives a real time classroom feeling.

The deal certainly seems good for customers. Rather than pay local tutors $40 to $50 per hour session, they get it for $9.99 per hour.

Most of its customers come to it via word of mouth.

The company faces some stiff challenges. It’s all so new and unproven. But looking at the speed at which online tutoring companies are growing, it seems the parents are ready to trust a foreigner to teach their children.
